Privacy

Short version: DataLayer Spec runs entirely in your browser. The spec you build is stored on your own device and never uploaded to us. We load no analytics. The only data that can leave your browser is an email address you choose to enter in the optional email form.

Who we are

DataLayer Spec is a free tool provided by New North Digital (“NND”, “we”), an analytics consultancy based in the Netherlands. For any privacy question, email hello@newnorth.nl.

What the tool stores, and where

Everything you do in the tool happens client-side. The event spec you build is saved in your browser’s localStorage and encoded into the page URL so you can bookmark or share it. This data stays on your device (and in any link you choose to share). It is not transmitted to, or stored on, NND servers. There is no account and no login.

To clear it, use your browser’s “clear site data” for this site, or the “Clear all” action in the tool.

Optional email form

After you print or download a spec, the tool may offer once to email you a link to it. This is optional and the tool works fully without it. If you submit the form, two things are sent to our server: your email address and the spec link (the same URL you see in your address bar, which encodes the spec you built). We send you one email with that link.

Your email address is stored in Resend, our email provider, whose sending domains for New North Digital are configured in the EU region, as a contact on the New North Digital updates list. We may send occasional updates about the tool and our work. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us at hello@newnorth.nlto delete your address. Whether you answered the prompt is remembered in your browser’s localStorage so it is not shown again.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. As our hosting provider, Vercel processes standard technical request data (such as IP address and request metadata) in server logs to deliver and secure the site. See Vercel’s own privacy notice for details.

Feedback emails

The “Send feedback” button opens your own email client with a draft addressed to hello@newnorth.nl. If you send it, we receive whatever you choose to include (which may contain your spec URL and browser details) and use it only to respond and improve the tool.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection regarding any personal data we hold. This is relevant to the optional email form and to feedback you email us; the tool itself collects nothing else. To exercise a right, contact hello@newnorth.nl. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

We may update this notice as the tool evolves. The “last updated” date above reflects the current version.
